What was the client's main problem?

The client lacked a centralized and reliable way to monitor their fleet in real time. Vehicle locations, driver behavior, and performance data were fragmented across different tools or not available at all, making it difficult to optimize routes, control operational costs, and respond quickly to issues on the road. As the fleet grew, manual tracking and reporting became inefficient and error-prone, limiting visibility and slowing down decision-making.

How did this impact their business?

Automatic tracking of vehicle maintenance, fuel consumption, and driver behaviors helps companies cut operational expenses. Comprehensive monitoring of driver behaviors, vehicle conditions, and compliance helps reduce accidents, lower insurance premiums, and minimize potential legal liabilities.

What was Embrox's team challenge?

  • Real-Time GPS Tracking & Accuracy
    Customers should see the latest state of the vehicles on the dashboard in a runtime. That means the platform has to handle high-frequency location updates from thousands of vehicles and deliver that information for end customers.

  • Connectivity & IoT Device Integration
    The platform has to take data from different GPS trackers, sensors, and vehicle telematics devices from various manufacturers (Teltonika, Queclink, Ruptela, etc.).

  • Efficient Mapping & Route Visualization
    Raw GPS coordinates are scattered points and need segmentation into meaningful trips/routes. Detecting stops, idle time, and deviations is complex. The platform shall be able to analyze and retrieve the routes from raw data effectively and correctly.

  • Scalable Data Processing & Storage
    The system has to process a lot of GPS updates per second. The cloud architecture has to be set up to be able to manage that amount of data in a small amount of time.

How were these challenges overcome?

  • To simplify the integration of the communication protocol between cloud and devices, we implemented it using Flespi API. Using websockets on the dashboard side helped to achieve runtime updates about the latest state of the assets.

  • As the client mentioned that the platform is going to support more and more types of the assets and devices, Embrox developed a flexible protocol adapter layer to scale the platform once new protocol are requested to implement.

  • Cloud backend uses time-series databases for efficient data storage of the large data records. That helped to increase historical requests process time.

How did Embrox approach this project to ensure client's satisfaction?
